Everything about Denis Sulta’s persona exudes energy. From his brightly colored attire and bold eyeliner to his beats themselves—infectious and full of vitality—it’s hard to miss him.

The Scotland-based DJ/producer, whose real name is Hector Barbour, began working in the music industry professionally through Glasgow’s Rubadub Record Store, though, at the same time, he was moonlighting with regular acts at the iconic Sub Club, also in Glasgow. Since he first began making music, he’s had a steady rise and is continuing to attract more and more recognition. Thus far, Barbour has released two EPs, 2019’s ‘Aye Spoake Te Sumwuhn & They Listenhd,” and the two-track ‘Nein Fortiate,’ in 2017. He’s also shared a long list of singles, including the highly successful “It’s Only Real,” released in 2015, and ‘A.A.L.A.S.,’ also released the same year. Sulta has released tracks on labels like Dixon Avenue Basement Jams and Numbers, and he’s even minted his own label, Sulta Selects. Under the Sulta Selects umbrella, the artist hosts a popular Friday night event series at the famed Amnesia night club on notorious party island Ibiza, which not only features sets from the artist himself, but from a slew of other notable musicians, including Jayda G, Saoirse, Kilimanjaro, Bklava, DJ Boring, and more.

Denis Sulta has also proven himself to be a critic’s pick, with a Mixmag cover under his belt as well as a part on BBC Radio 1’s Residency show, which also features Charlotte de Witte, Saoirse, Jayda G, and HAAi. He’s also launched a DJ and production scholarship in collaboration with DJ Mag, which will provide the resources for a UK-based aspiring artist to study music in higher education. And beyond his editorial features and good works, his music has also caught the eyes of not only industry heavyweights like Peggy Gou and Four Tet, but hundreds of thousands of fans, too.
